This is top priority to hold SFMTA and the City of San Francisco accountable for aggressive ticketing, even ticketing riders in error. Sometimes they ask a rider to get off and other times they ticket them on the bus. We see these proof of payment officers assume people are fare evaders when they are just trying to get to work and school. This is our public transit system and we say prioritize rider safety now!

Join us in the park to help paint the banner that we use at group events demonstrating for riders’ rights. On the main banner, we have the name of our group and the outlines of places around San Francisco in pencil in preparation to paint. Please jump right in and paint a neighborhood that’s important to you or what you see when you take MUNI. We will provide paints and brushes. There will also be supplies to make a sign to use at a demonstration from colorful paper and markers.

We will not be attending the meeting as a group or gathering at the beginning of the meeting. We encourage anyone who is comfortable, to speak at the meeting because there needs to be more representation of transit riders. There are many issues with our public transit system and also many steps to make it accessible, safe and efficient. It begins with asserting our voices and understanding that we have every right and obligation to speak up. Does the board of directors really represent riders? Make your voice heard. Alicia will try to chalk or hold signs/banners outside of city hall at the end of the meeting, you are welcome to join or do your own thing. It was on December 2nd when we shared the experience of being forced off of MUNI even when the fare was paid. The safety demand was presented as a result of many instances of wrongdoing by SFMTA. We extended the deadline from January 2nd to January 31st 2026. We will not keep pushing it back. This safety demand is to prevent further negligent practices by SFMTA, especially toward vulnerable groups such as seniors, people with disabilities and unhoused people.

SFMTA has mismanaged San Francisco’s transportation system. Enough service cuts, increases in fares, and discrimination of our communities. We demand MUNI be accessible in accordance with the American’s with Disabilities Act and Civil Rights Act.
